DC and Warner Bros. unveil the much-anticipated Blue Beetle movie, offering us the first glimpse of the former HBO Max exclusive superhero flick. While the movie's debut on the big screen marks DC's peculiar transitory universe phase, the trailer reveals the movie's potential as a great blockbuster hit. The trailer introduces Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes, the third hero in DC's canon to take on the mantle of the Blue Beetle, with a different backstory that radically overhauls the Blue Beetle concept.

The trailer kicks off with Jaime working in the hotel industry in a fictional city, Palmera, created specifically for the movie. Jaime is later seen holding an alien scarab that bonds with his spine, transforming him into the Blue Beetle, and granting him superpowers like enhanced strength, agility, and the ability to fly. The scarab, a piece of alien technology from the Reach species, has the potential to be dangerous technology, and it seems that some people would want to exploit it for their gain. This includes Victoria Kord, played by Susan Sarandon, Ted Kord's older sister, who runs Kord Industries, a company with a connection to Blue Beetle's comic book legacy.

The trailer showcases Conrad Carapax, played by Raoul Max Trujillo, as the film's other villain, a mercenary who first appeared as an enemy of Ted Kord in the '80s. Although Ted himself is not the star of the show, the trailer alludes to his presence, given the shadow Kord Industries casts over the whole trailer.

As we see Jaime violently transform into the Blue Beetle post-bonding, we get a brief taste of the superpowers he has, along with his exosuit that creates a variety of weapons for Jaime to fight with. Eventually, the Scarab and Jaime agree to use an emergency mode known as the Infiltrator, where the Scarab takes full control of Jaime and develops a much more aggressive version of the suit, as a last resort.

The trailer offers a few intriguing hints and details, including the use of the innocuous hamburger box to safeguard a mysterious package that is a DC Comics reference, and the brief appearance of Big Belly Burger, established as one of the U.S.' biggest fast food chains in the comics.

Overall, the Blue Beetle trailer looks promising, with a fresh take on the character and his backstory, along with an interesting set of villains and superb graphics that promise an action-packed superhero movie.
