Buffalo Firefighter Indicted on Child Pornography Charges

A Buffalo firefighter has been indicted and charged with multiple counts related to the possession and promotion of child pornography, according to Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn.

The defendant, 39-year-old Jose DeJesus, was charged with one count of promoting a sexual performance by a child and four counts of possessing a sexual performance by a child. The crimes allegedly occurred on January 4, 2022, when DeJesus was employed as a firefighter by the Buffalo Fire Department.

According to prosecutors, DeJesus possessed images and videos of child pornography with the intent to view them. He is also accused of sharing images depicting sexual conduct by a child with another user via a website.

DeJesus appeared in court on Monday, and his next court date is scheduled for May 26 for motions. Prosecutors requested that he be held on $15,000 cash, $15,000 bond, or $50,000 partially secured surety bond.

If convicted of the highest charge, DeJesus could face up to 7 years in prison. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and prompt action in identifying and addressing cases of child pornography and exploitation.
