Legendary ‘Fleetwood Mac’ Keyboardist Christine McVie Died of Massive Stroke and Aggressive Cancer

The world was shocked when news broke of the passing of Christine McVie, legendary keyboardist and singer of Fleetwood Mac, in November 2022. At the time, it was only said that she had died after a “short illness,” but recently obtained documents revealed that McVie had been battling an aggressive form of cancer and ultimately died of a massive stroke.

According to her death certificate and will, the musician was diagnosed with “metastatic malignancy of unknown primary origin” which means cancer had spread in her body where the primary source or tumor could not be detected. The cancer was listed as a secondary cause of her death, with the massive stroke being the primary cause. McVie had also been suffering from atrial fibrillation, which is a common type of treated heart arrhythmia.

In the months before her death, McVie had opened up about her health struggles and said that her chronic back problem might keep her from performing. The death certificate revealed that the musician’s estate was worth in excess of $50 million, with most of her assets in the United States, but some of her liquid money was in the UK.

McVie never had any children and was not married, so her brother and his children are the sole heirs of her musical fortune. Several charities are also set to receive some of her assets, but it’s unclear how much.

Christine McVie’s contributions to Fleetwood Mac’s sound cannot be overstated, and her passing is a great loss to the music world. The band issued a statement following her death, asking fans to keep her in their hearts and remember the life of an incredible human being and revered musician who was loved universally.
